The Tale of Fire Pants is about a little 10yr old boy (my son) who is currently on a punishment. Well, yesterday I had gotten home from a long day at work. I wasn’t feeling too well so I decided to lie down and take a nap. Once I got out of bed, I went to check on the kids. All of my kids were present except my 10yr old. I proceed to questioning his sister about his whereabouts only to discover that he was outside.
As I looked out the window I could clearly see my son having the time of his life playing basketball. I stood at that window for about a good 5minutes before I go to the door to call him inside. While standing there watching him, I was flustered with so many emotions. I felt anger, disrespect, sadness, and hurtful that my son would take it upon himself, to do what he wanted to do, despite the fact that he is on punishment.
I begin to call his name……Dejon……Dejon……he comes to the door with this look on his face (wish you could’ve seen it)! And before I could ask what he was doing outside he let that lie role so smoothly off of his tongue. “Mom, I was taking out the trash,” he said. (little did he know I had been watching him through the window). “Stop lying!” I yelled. “You just added two more weeks to your punishment!”
The sad part about this story is that it sounds all too familiar. The stories may be funny, but in the end he is still a “LIAR”. After this incident occurred I was up nearly half the night thinking about how comfortable he was with telling me a lie. I had so many questions and thoughts going through my head.
Here are the top two questions that I had to ask my readers.
1. When does it go from something they do, to something they are?
2. How long do you excuse their fibbing before they become a liar?
